Skin is the body’s largest organ and performs essential functions in protecting the body from a host of serious and potentially life threatening external contacts. Although there are many conditions or incidents that can lead to interruption of skin’s function, i.e. a wound, the body’s mechanisms for healing that interruption are consistent and supported by the technologies and processes in Advanced Healing Systems' Wound Care Formulary.

Wound are most often classified either by the cause (pressure, surgical, skin tear, burn) or by the underlying health condition predisposing the individual to the wound (arterial, venous, diabetic).

And whether damage is caused by an incident such as a burn, a surgery, pressure, or other underlying condition, the body wants to close the wound. Occasionally, and for a variety of reasons that are not all yet known, the body is unable to heal a wound in a timely manner and the wound becomes chronic – leaving the individual at much greater risk for infection and further deterioration of the skin and tissue at that location.

Regardless of how the wound is caused, the wound’s underlying factors, or chronicity, Advanced Healing Systems’ Wound Care Formulary has demonstrated effectiveness for its clients.

Please see the wound types at the right for additional descriptions and information.
