Wound Formulary Drives Outcomes

Data shows healing rates increase; costs decrease

Summary: Successful implementation of the AHS Formulary has demonstrated faster rates of wound healing and at lower costs than current wound treatment methods in every care setting.

New technologies and consistent processes will cause a paradigm shift in wound care.

Currently, the U.S. wound care market is characterized by a high level of fragmentation that often requires wounds to be treated with inconsistent methodologies in multiple, highly expensive care settings i.e. hospitals, wound clinics and plastic surgery clinics. The AHS Formulary provides a model solution by creating a system that stimulates healing in lower cost care settings including the patient home and provides a record of healing that can be shared across provider types thereby reducing fragmentation of care.

Formulary means recipe. The AHS Formulary is a “recipe” or proprietary system of new wound healing technologies, measurement through an electronic medical record, and provision of training and support to caregivers and medical professionals. Successful implementation of the AHS Formulary has demonstrated faster rates of wound healing and at lower costs than current wound treatment methods in every care setting (including in a patient’s home).

The AHS Formulary includes tools and training for Assessment, Prevention, Treatment, and Documentation of wounds.

  • Assessment – Assessment is a process of gathering and documenting information. AHS’ Assessment combines and utilizes current industry standards, including, the Braden Scale, results from VP1000 testing - Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), Tissue Tolerance Testing, and Baseline Admission Assessment.
  • Prevention – Prevention is an important part of the AHS Formulary and applies both to patients with existing wounds as well as those patients at risk but who do not yet have areas of breakdown. The AHS Formulary will assist providers in identifying high risk patients / residents and taking steps to alleviate those risks.
  • Treatment – AHS Formulary for Wound healing combines standard treatments with new tools and technologies such as AHS Silver Solution and PEMF to speed wound healing processes.
  • Documentation – Documentation both by measurement and photograph is a critical component of the AHS formulary. AHS has created a user friendly, HIPAA compliant, web-based, wound data portal sufficient to document, record, and report wound data and outcomes for all of the patients and wounds being treated by our clients.
  • Education and Training – Every AHS implementation includes training for onsite staff and medical providers or caregivers. An AHS representative will be present to train multiple shifts of nurses and aides in the AHS Formulary and its treatment protocols.

The AHS Formulary combines technologies, tools and processes that are essential for successful implementation into a wound care clinical practice:

  • Technologies that either speed the time to heal or reduce the cost to heal; or both
  • Clinical proof of condition resolution through an electronic medical record
  • Medical provider training and marketing support

Whether you are an individual with a chronic non-healing wound, an integrated health system that understands the need to improve clinical outcomes while reducing costs, or a health system payor with an interest in partnering to improve the outcomes for your covered population, the AHS Wound Care Formulary can demonstrate how a consistent program leveraging new technologies can significantly improve wound care outcomes both clinically and financially.
